Flat Pack

We were asked for this brief to create a short (intro) (can't think of the word) for flat pack wether it was in a group or individually.
I started my the flat pack design on my own and came up with a very simple idea.

So what was supposed happens is that the camera travels out to sea at a high speed and dives into the ocean. As it gets deeper you start to see different coloured lights glowing (Like The Abyss) and once close enought the camera slows downn to make out circles whcih are meant to be creatures that move around like Jellyfish and Flatpack the fades into the shot whilst the creature continue to swim around very gently.

After the guy (cant remember his name) came in and said that he prefferent the other theme I scrapped this idea as it was based on the colours of that card.
I then joined with Amit, Shaun, Mark, Nathan and Jen.
That idea was to have a 8-bit style animationg of the planets in alignment and haveing the camera traveling over each planet towards the sun and as it got near, it panned to the side of the plannets showing next to eachother in order with strings attached. Then the camere tilts and travelst upwards to reveal a film reel and strings attached from that to each planed to show that film pretty much runs the world.
This idea was also rejected so nothing more came of it and I'm affrad that I have no evidence of any work towards this project.

Recession Project

For this brief we were asked to provide a video of what the recession means to us, wich could have been in any medium we chose. As animators we ofcourse chose to make an animation about this and thought that it aslo was a great way to show our thoughts visually.

The plan was to film ourselves around town trying to find out what the recession means to 'us as students'. However the recession hasn't made much of an impact on us at this particular time thus having ourselves on film thinking about something to do for this recession project whereby we create a parody.
The footage would have then been rotoscoped in each induvidual style and things we say would/could have been drawn over creating a visual image of what was being said.

We sadly didnt get to rotoscope the footage as we broke up over the holidays and didnt have the videos that we needed to animate our individual pieces. The editing of the video also took slightly longer than planned and somehow managed not to have the edited piece.

But here are some footage that we took (keep in mind, these are not the edited videos but we did want to keep that hand held camera feel to the animation) -

The Establishing shot.....

Also the establishing shot, would have been eddited together.....somehow

What the recession means..... the following vids after this woud have been editted inbetween parts of this vid.

People playing for money, surely they have been affected by the recession.

The plan here was to animate someone commiting suiced while the word recession was buzzing around him showing that the recession pushed him over the edge. (not supposed to be gory)

Amit acting desperate for an out-door toilet that needs to be payed for to use.

This time he did pay for using a public toilet, showing that we are required evn to use toilets... so I guess we (our group/students in the same possition as us) are affected in minor ways such as this.

You get the joke...

Thomas demanding to be payed.
Agen another simple ways just to gain extra money.

We managed to get a quick interview with a staff member in GAME. He sure got affected by the recession, however this has little impact on students who doesn't work.

And finally, the best fun fair ride they could afford... LOOK AT SHAUN!!! HAHAHAHAHA

Short 2D Animations

Here is my special little area for any animations that interst and insprires me.
I'm more intersted in 2D animations than any other so most of them should all be 2D however there might be a few defferent styles since 2D isn't the only style that inspires me.
If it's about viewing animations, I think I gain inspirations from both 3D aswel as 2D but what I would choose for myself to animate in is deffinatly 2D.

I really am a visual person so the visuals of an animation have much more of an impact on me than the story telling part of it eg. Avatar, (although 3D) I like that mainly for the visuals (and often gets looked at funny becuase of it) but I wouldn't care much at all had it have a different story to line.It also shows how far technology has come since 1995's Toy story which isn't that long to have gained such an improvement in the realism of the animations, characters and backgrounds.

However perfect detail doesn't always have a greater impression as sometimes it's best to leave some things quite simplistic and leaving parts up to the imagination of the viewer.

Cartoons such as the Road runner or Tom & Jerry have always have a great appeal to me as a child although I never knew what it was that I liked so much about it.
The exageration of poses and actions I really do find one of a kind in Tom & Jerry and have yet to enjoy any other animation as much as I do when looking at the creative and humorous part to the animation in Tom & Jerry and I believe that 3D can never have that effect that 2D can create.
eg. following vid

I truely believe that this episode would never look as good in 3D as it does in 2D. Even the exaggerated squashing and stretching could not be pulled of as well in 3D.
I'm not saying that 3D doesn't work because we all know it does but there are certain things 3D can never achieve that 2D can... and visa versa but i belive that to be more with camara angles in the case of 3D.

Here is a short animation that I like aswel and I think is animated really well.

Yes I know its Anime, but I love it and I am highly influenced by Anime!(THE main reason I'm on this course, and to be truthful this page would consist completely of Anime... but I won't) And definately this scene as I also find the animation here very well done.
It doesn't use the 12 principles of animation but that doesn't mean that the animation isn't good. Personally I like animation that moves very smoothly and with the little details that makes the differences. I think that anime style works really well and expresses what it wants/needs to express perfectly. I know it's frowned upon alot since the style isn't original but that doen't make it any less good or less appealing.

Another 2D animation that I really like is "The road to Eldorado".
The animaiton is very smooth, good pose to pose animation and even the lip syncing is very well done.

Altough I like these animations, I preffere to work in short animations.
